Adam & Daniel’s "Boclectic Craftern" Loft

Adam and Daniel have developed the perfect mix of bohemian and craft in their downtown loft. Everything down to the hand stitched couch is thoughtfully designed and displays example after example of their incredible DIY fortitude. With two cats and a small dog, this family enjoys a bright and cheerful space with all the benefits of downtown LA right at their fingertips.

We first got a glimpse of their awesome loft in the recent Small Cool Contest. I knew the minute I saw their DIY Chevron striped wall, that they had created something original. On the second floor of a historic loft building, they overlook a busy DTLA street and reap the benefits of a sun filled space from all the vast window light.
Their diverse design approach to their loft lends itself creatively to their handmade goods; the amazing couch, their refinish on the dresser behind the couch, the hand painted pattern on the wall, all the sewn goods (such as the duvet cover). Adam explains that even his planters and hanging plants give purpose and art to their home.
More traditonal loft features that stand out are the use of the bookcase to create a divider from bed and living room area, the super modern kitchen and the free standing island dining set.
Not only does this space seem like a very warm place to live, but great for entertaining and visitors as well. Enjoy!

MY/OUR Style: Wow! These are starting to get hard. Not quite sure how to answer this one? Bohemian? Eclectic? Modern? Crafty? No, these are all so cliché. Let’s call our style; Boclectic Craftern, or Eclemian Modafty?! You choose! (be nice though)
Inspiration: It’s always cool to see the “hand” in objects and spaces. Japanese style is usually an inspiration too. The attention to detail and simple solutions are inspiring.

Favorite Element: I guess “we” should say the couch, only because its taking so long to complete! And the wall in the living room is a definite favorite! Oh, and all the windows and the light they provide “the jungle”

Biggest Challenge: lighting is somewhat a challenge. One wall is all windows, but it gets darker as you go into the kitchen area. We usually find ourselves wanting for more light in our workspace.

What Friends Say: usually has something to do with the plants and the couch and the wall.

Biggest Embarrassment: a few of our window blinds are broken, so when friends stay over I have to cut the ropes I use to tie them up. Kind of embarrassing. Window coverings are $$$ for windows these big!

Proudest DIY: I feel like I can’t say the couch until its done. Daniel painted the wall in the living room and it’s amazing, but I think my favorite DIY would be the duvet cover. It’s the first thing we conspired to create together.
Biggest Indulgence: The electronics
Best Advice: I think homes are best when they reflect the person/s who live there. A home should not be too serious or fancy itself as such. It should have a sense of humor and a romantic side. In other words, don’t pigeonhole yourself or your home to be any one thing. Mix it up a bit. Make it personal.
